He was still throbbing, desperate with his eyes wide open and clear. An inclement winter had chased him until he was exhausted for hunger, for thirst, where everything was transparent, of ice and stiff, in that cold that kidnapped everything bringing it to himself.

Qualcuno diceva averlo visto. Ma non nessuno era sicuro.
Even before a naturalistic emergency, the wolf is a sociological emergency conditioned by man before even by natural factors. It’s always bothered me. But this dog undoubtedly teaches us something, with his desperate desire to live, favored by our laws of nature protection.
Near the warm, brackish water, that sunless afternoon, mocked by the undertow, there was a small root; it seemed ordered, there, in the vain attempt to lengthen what by its fellows already had from the earth to reach the sea.
One day a flower just bloomed lost a petal, which, light and slow, slipped towards the ground, almost mischievous, going to settle near a leaf.
...I had to go back to the origins. To the Earth. To this pure, sweet and wonderful Mother.
The Guidelines for the care and safeguard of the Monumental Trees by MIPAAFT have been recently updated and approved by decree of 31 March 2020 n. 1104.
After the acceptance of the preliminary Atlas of bats of Friuli Venezia Giulia for the publication in the journal Gortania Botanica-Zoologia, a dangerous pandemic has exploded due to a group of viruses very heterogeneous but widely spread among bats.
I would say first of all that the act of creating, building and then leaving to others what is conceived and realized is basically communication. Communication, in its most elementary sense, lives on the highest level of the relationality of individuals to individuals, and, as in the case of the garden from a characterizing element to an individual, although always from thought to sharing.
Spring. I walk, at the end of April, along the mule track of Erio. It is a dirt road built more than a century ago..
...it is evening, far away a flight of herons flanks the course of the Po and the croaking of frogs permeates that extraordinary landscape, humid, dark, of the paddy fields of the Monferrato.
It was time for that. The winter was pressing on the air of that day that together with the light, more and more stingy, lay softly around the place where the hill above seemed to rise more and more.
Eden, the program of Licia Colò over LA7, and the National Mountain Museum, what do they have in common? More importantly, what does GTF have to do with it?

The first trip to the Park of Miramare, with prof. Nimis who told the botany and other experts who revealed the secrets of the park, was exciting.
An adventure, a journey into the green world that surrounds us. Discover the older trees to get to know them and look at them closely. Every month we will organize a meeting with one or more of these living beings in the woods and parks of our wonderful region.

It’s been a year full of events, experiences and news for GTF and all its friends and supporters...
It is not enough, we need to do more, it is not enough to talk, it is not enough to disseminate. Let us help ourselves to work for the future of our planet.
"1 x 100,000". One year to plant 100,000 trees. It is a project created to provide an even more tangible concrete response to the needs of the forests affected by the storm Vaia and to our territory more generally.
An unusual word, perhaps never heard before...but we think it’s time to rediscover it and to be a lot to want to call us in this way.
Last year we had the news: "We found the largest fir tree in Europe", but many did not believe it...
The contest that is exciting all the lovers of Italian trees...
The first impact when we saw it for the first time, with the second branch on the ground in August 2017. Giant wounded who does not give up.
Even the second week of our Forest Summer schools ended with great satisfaction of all participants and with a new desire to engage and rebuild...
An intense week, among felled trees, broken roots, stumbling blocks on the slope above the path, young people willing to learn and help. An incredible week I never imagined.
Even a small village festival can become a moment of knowledge and culture about the arboreal world.
We are at the end of our exploration: we face the Giant and our fears. Everyone with his aspirations and desires...
How Forest Summer School was born.
Finally, after much research, we meet a huge tree... Will it be the tallest?
We arrived in Ecuador. The adventure begins by knowing the arboreal species and the splendid orchids in the Botanical Garden of Quito.
The last month has been dedicated to the preparation of the equipment, to the purchase of the material but above all to the development of what we have called the cannon. I was fully aware that one of the biggest problems in the forest would be reaching the first branches. It was necessary to build something that would allow us to throw the line almost 50 meters. The force of the arm alone could not be sufficient.
Giovanni was to maintain relations with the Amazon University of Ikiam, with the reserve of the kichwa people and with the other two members of the expedition, Paulo, a forestry engineer, and Eliseo, our guide, getting all the necessary permits to enter the forest to climb and measure trees.
I met Valeria at the end of December, during an interview for the broadcast "Il Mondo Insieme" by Licia Colò, in Rome. I had been called to talk about my tree trips; she, Valeria - Cira for friends - to talk about her trip to the Maldives. She is a travel blogger.
David had called me immediately after the Storm Vaia "I would like to make a film about the flood and the fallen trees, but I would also like to talk to someone who understands. Do you have a moment to meet and talk about it?"
I personally planted many trees, I was born and raised in a nursery of plants and especially I climbed, trimmed and measured with love, throughout my life, thousands of trees a little everywhere in the world. This I believe has made me what I am today and led me to embark on this new adventure.
We arrived at the hotel from the airport; it was already dark. So we saw nothing. The hotel was small, a room in four. Three beds. The adventure has begun. For a year we had been preparing this expedition. "Why don’t you come to Ecuador next time?" It started with Giovanni’s simple question, the idea.
Feeling the expectation, warmth, affection and curiosity of your friends makes you even more eager to leave. "But are you not afraid of spiders, snakes or poisonous frogs?". "Every morning, when you take the car, I think you run bigger dangers". But as I answer like this, laughing at what you ask, I know it won’t be easy.
For more than thirty years I have been fighting this disastrous practice on trees, which cannot be considered pruning. And from a young age I preferred to cut down a fallen tree rather than see it suffer, even deprived of its dignity of being "A Tree".
The departure of an incredible expedition is approaching.
The new guidelines for the care and preservation of Italian monumental trees by MIPAAFT have finally been published.
With an incredible comeback we came second out of thirty projects presented at the contest of Reale Foundation. Once again, the involvement of so many people and the enormous affection we received allowed us to achieve unexpected goals only a short time ago.
We were asked to participate in a contest to get more funds for the Carnia forests. We need your help to win. One click and we can save more trees.
Lectio Magistralis by Prof. Stefano Mancuso in Udine.. plants will survive because they are much smarter than us...
For us and our Region, involved in various ways at different levels and on more tables of comparison, on the theme of trees and forests.
The initiative started with the intention of giving, in our small, a contribution to Carnia, hard hit by the storm Vaia at the end of October...
When we started this adventure I never expected this incredible involvement and these resounding results.
You are many! Thank you. Here you are some indications to contribute to the project from now until Christmas!
The solidarity initiative in support of flood victims becomes a ten-year project to build innovative experimental and educational forests and more and more are the public and private supporters.
We were astonished, and every day we are more so, for the affection and resonance that our initiative is gathering. It’s a big solidarity contest. Thank you very much to the hundreds of people who yesterday in Udine contributed to make the first day of the initiative "For Christmas give birth to a new wood".
The initiative started with great excitement; last Sunday teens and adults went to collect the first tips of trees sappada. "It was not easy to climb among the felled trunks, to untangle between the branches to transport to the valley the tormented points of the fallen firs", says Giorgio Bertossio, one of the columns of the volunteers of the Giant Foundation.
The Giant Trees Foundation would like to suggest to all Friulans and others, to use for Christmas one of the fallen trees, without having to shoot down another, as a symbol of (re)birth of all our people so severely affected.
The tragedy that has struck our country in these days and specifically Friuli, where the Foundation was founded, with climatic events of disastrous proportions that have swept away entire forests with millions of cubic meters of trees destroyed, must make us reflect deeply.
Disaster. Thousands, millions of fallen trees, streams and rivers in flood, landslides, houses destroyed. Dead. But it is not an exceptional fact. Let us not hide behind the evil nature, behind the dangerous trees. It is only a warning, which still the natural world sends us..
The stem was not very big, "only" three meters in circumference to chest of man, but extremely slender. With the laser, the first good branches, were more than 30 meters from the ground. Below them only a few boxes of dried branches. I immediately started throwing the line..
"Guys, maybe we have found the new Prince, the new tallest native tree in Italy, instead of the Avez that we commemorated a few days ago. And it is right here. In Friuli..".
This time I try to get there by motorbike. I promised it to the great and ancient protectors of the country. The road that goes up from Monticello to Moggessa di Là is not a piece of cake for a GS 800, but I want to make a visit to the banished wood of black pines above the old uninhabited village.
"There is an incredible forest of black pine", they told me on the phone, "It will be over three hundred years old". Of course I didn’t believe it, but I went to see it. And instead..
"So what do we do?" the boys ask me in unison. "We make the van, the go-pros and all the batteries, we eat and we go to the Avez! Who’s there?" I look at them all one at a time "I do!" "I do" "I do," they take turns. Edison watches me "I’m with you, brother".
He was there in front of me. Old but enormously majestic. Suddenly it sucked me in its lap and, going back six centuries, I became a child again.
He opened his eyes in the dark and realized how much it costed to breathe. He sat on the bed, gasping. The bandages tightened his chest like pliers. The doctor had managed to stop the bleeding in time: he was barely alive. A thin blade of light cut the room in half. It was day and you had to deal with life and reality. He barely got up and got dressed, flickering every time her clothes rubbed against her wound.
Instead I sit, motionless, watching that sure gesture, without a minimum of indecision, which man repeats endlessly, walking towards me, and yet staying far away. I feel my heart beating loudly as I watch it and in the darkness of memory screams, songs, thoughts of every color.
It is not, does not want to be and cannot be an educational farm. The Tana is an educational challenge. We want to educate children to love nature, sustainability, respect for life.
The first churches are woods, many of the first gods are large trees, and just under a tree the historical Buddha obtained his "awakening". In short, the tree is a totemic symbol.
A true encounter does not stop long if the heart awaits him.
When I first started working on this oak, a few years later I was almost thrilled. The Vecja, as the inhabitants of Villanova called it, was already bewitching me.
I met Erwin at the night at the Colonos. He had told me about his restaurant but above all about his tree, a great horse chestnut, which adorned the courtyard of the old tavern and under which the patrons drank the famous gentian aperitif.
There are "constrictors" or "stranglers" plants, such as a particular species of tropical ficus, which is born as epiphyte on the branches but then slowly its roots go down to the ground and once touched the soil grow out of measure squeezing the host and taking its place literally.
"There’s a big holm oak in the woods, they call it Ilice di Carrinu" he said. Just above the village of Milo, going up a road through the holm oak woods born over an ancient lava flow..
I walked along the beach looking at the dead jellyfish.. and a question arose.
It’s Easter Eve. A heavy storm wakes me up. Lightning follows...it’s better to stay holed up today. But the phone rings..
"There’s another big tree that needs you". We entered the park, and moving branches of aucube and hazelnuts, we found before us the incredible and powerful stem of a fabulous cedar.
The splendid Park of Villa De Claricini Dornpacher is located in Bottenicco (Moimacco), on a large plain, and has many old and interesting trees.
There is another chestnut tree on the slopes of Etna. Not far from the well-known Chestnut of the 100 Horses.
I slip in running the harness over the short trousers. No shirt. No shoes. No helmet. My skin against the skin of the redwood...
The smell where Nature reigns supreme and dresses in her most beautiful clothes smelling of the sun.
The Quinta de Monserrate, former royal residence, was truly an incredible discovery, despite having visited it in the middle of winter.
That spun tree, which stretches to look for light without worrying about strengthening its stem, measures almost 57 meters.
Of course I promised myself. I would also climb a great Nothofagus. And, coincidentally, right next to Araucaria Madre, there was one of considerable size.
He had climbed what at that time was known as the second largest redwood on the planet: "Bull Buck". Alone. 77 meters high on a plant over 2500 years old.
It is dangerous not to consider in the right perspective what is different from us. And do not understand that our clock is not suitable to measure the time of all living.
